Quality Assurance

Expert quality is in every PIAD chill casting. PIAD maintains a comprehensive and structured quality assurance program that encompasses all facets of its operations, from initial casting design to final inspection.

Quality begins with a thorough Technical Staff Meeting for each new part. Here, the component's function is analyzed, casting and machining drawings are scrutinized, and mold design, gating, and risering strategies are finalized. Detailed processing routes and comprehensive Inspection & Testing Plans are established during this phase, for every part number produced.

Following the initial planning stage, each new part undergoes a prototyping cycle to fine-tune the casting process. During this stage, samples are inspected to ensure compliance to 100% of the agreed design specifications. A dedicated process sheet is expertly crafted to document the detailed procedures to ensure production of the part is repeatable, and meets the quality requirements expected from PIAD’s castings.

PIAD offers comprehensive PPAP options to meet each customer’s specific requirements. The PIAD Quality Team will provide all the necessary testing, reporting, and documentation of the process during the PPAP stage to ensure optimized production and satisfaction of the customer. Once the part samples/PPAP is approved by the customer, the part will be released for production.

Throughout production, routine quality checks are conducted on chemical composition, hardness, and electrical conductivity to ensure consistency and adherence to specifications. Dimensional inspection is also performed to ensure parts meet the agreed upon critical-to-quality specifications, at specified intervals during production in the foundry and secondary processes.

Final inspection focuses on critical functional properties essential for component performance, and ensure all processes are completed as intended. PIAD also provides certifications upon customer request, underscoring our commitment to transparency and meeting industry standards.

PIAD-One

Over the last few years, PIAD’s quality labs have utilized the latest in inspection technologies. From a high-performance optical emission spectrometer in our metal lab, to our automated Hexagon CMM and FARO Quantum X portable CMM (including 8-Axis MAX) for dimensional inspection departments. PIAD also has 3D, laser-line probe capability, to scan castings for comparison to 3D models or to reverse-engineer parts for our customers or Engineering Team.

PIAD is proud to do our part in Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance. Upon request, PIAD will certify that our products meet the requirements of RoHS, REACH, TSCA, POP, Conflict Minerals, CA Prop65, SCIP, and others.
